EXTENSION HIGH SCHOOL SEEKIRCHEN, SALZBURG
PUBLIC BUILDING
2nd Prize
JANUARY 2010
10.615 M² TA
Starting Point

The existing school complex appears as a simple cubic volume showing its depth away from the main street.
The main entrance to the school area and to the building – in order to be precise to the wardrobes - is directly connected with the street by a staircase – therefore not offering any welcoming or attractive entrance hall.

Concept

The two new building components with their new rooms now embrace the existing school and the new coverage of the entrance area and outdoor spaces, therefore uniting the old and the new parts of the complex.

Building

The structure of the existing school has been incorporated in the assembly. The new classrooms are added to the volume in the west.
As prominent symbol of education the new library is positioned right at the main entrance’s east side. It is arranged on two levels: the students entering and using the library on the ground floor and the upper floor providing the teachers with their own area.
The existing inner hall continues in the new building, again bringing together old and new parts into one coherent space
